I normally try to stay out of Military Wife drama… but on Fort Polk you just can’t escape!
This beautiful male husky lives in the woods on post near my house and comes most afternoons to play with me and the next door neighbor’s dog (who he taught how to get out of the fence much to their dismay so we both look out for our little pack buddies) he is not fixed, no collar, will take food out of my hand but has no interest in human affection, and shows extreme anxiety when men are around. He is terribly smart and will not go more than half way in my gate, he has shown no aggression to the family dogs, even though my neighbor’s dog is still puppy rough with him, he just loves it.
So I go on the two local facebook websites that deal with lost/ local dogs… and this poor guy has 5 names and twelve families! Every wife in the area is claiming she is his, that she had him from a pup, that he is micro chipped, that he just got out last night… but he has been coming to my yard for months… the only post that I even half believe is a family that said they got him from a rescue, he is terrified of men because he was abused and they couldn’t catch him before they had to move but they only posted once briefly and I have heard nothing of it again.
I out right asked “WHO DOES HE BELONG TO?” and half the people tell me he lives in the woods (which I stated in my original post that they replied to) and then the other half say they want him, and one woman says we shouldn’t all feed him or he won’t know where his home is… then proceeds to say she should start feeding him
Then there is nearly WEEKLY groups of random women who set up times to meet and try and catch him… none of which seem to be able to tell me heads or tales of what they are going to do with him once they do…?!
My father was a dog breeder and we have caught so many strays and rehomed them, even a couple wolf hybrids in the woods of Tennessee… so I know I catch him, but I can’t keep him because I am moving soon, and I wouldn’t want to give him to a family that couldn’t give him a big yard and a stress free environment, basic vet care, preferably with a couple domesticated dogs to help tame him, that he deserves… Let alone these crazy women on post who sound like those sea gulls from Finding Nemo …
Seriously puppy… run free… find yourself a civilian family with a couple of dogs and no men, not some post family that is going to shove you in a tiny yard and give up on you the first time you hop a fence or dig under a gate. Don’t get caught up in the inescapable drama of the military wives!
(…and pick a family who has a better name for you than ‘Bandit’ or ‘Duke’!)
